Sage

Lily (Sage) is the sweetest dog we have ever encountered -- exuberant, fearless, lovable. The vet said she was in excellent health and a fine basset hound. We have put weight back on her -- she weighs 45 lbs (vet scale). Her spay surgery healed perfectly. We take her on walks every day. Doug walks her for a short neighborhood walk in the morning and we take her for a long walk in the park in the evening. We taught her to sit and shake paws and to stay. We are in love with her.

Jackson

We have been so pleased with Jackson. He did so well and learned so much at Man's Best Friend. And, we did too. Jackson is loving his home and is adjusting very well. He has made aquaintances with the dogs behind our yard and when the small dog jumped up onto the fence and barked, Jackson took off running to the front of the backyard by his bone. He looked like his ears were flying in the wind~ LOL We just got back from his vet visit and got his heartworm shot, and other preventative meds he needed. Even got him a monthly flea pill. He did very well at the vet. He is such a happy dog that everyone thinks he's a year old. He likes to chew on his bone we got him.

Toby

Hello All! We wanted to let everyone know how things were going with Toby. First, we should say that we are calling him EB (short for Encyclopedia Brown). Ever since we talked about adopting a dog, we knew his name was going to be EB. He has responded well to the name change and comes running when called, with a big silly looking face and floppy ears. We love him more than we thought possible. He is everything we could want in a dog and each day with him is so much fun. He loves to play fetch in the back yard and to go for walks around the neighborhood. We think, though, that he might love the dog park the best. He ran tirelessly for 3 hours during his first visit and loves chasing the other dogs and barking at their butts. He loves just about any toy we put in front of him. EB is a big cuddler. We decided to let him sleep in our bed, and he likes to start at the space between our heads and ends up at our feet by the morning. When we are not out walking or fetching or dog parking, he sits wherever we sit. As I type this, he is curled up in his bed in between David and me in our office. One issue we are having is his ability to get into any and everything as soon as our backs are turned. He is so long, which grants him easy access to all counter space. Recently, he ate an entire loaf of cinnamon sugar bread and was miserable for about an hour. We took him to the vet just in case and once we were there, he was fine. After we made it home, he then ate my dinner off the table. Other than that, he is just about perfect. We hope to nip this habit in obedience training. We spent Christmas morning with my family in Pearland and everyone loved playing with him and he got tons of plushy toys and cool stuff. He met Maggie, my grandparents' dog and they had lots of fun playing and running around. For New Year's we drove to Ft. Lauderdale to surprise David's family. He is great in the car. EB met Daisy and Bruno there and had lots of fun learning how to play with much bigger dogs. By the end of our time there, everyone wanted him to stay. We are over the moon. We have a lot of love to give and are so happy to have such a wonderful addition to our family. We are excited for all of the experiences to come and are so happy to have found him through Basset Buddies and so thankful for the foster families that took such good care of him. We'd like you to know that we are doing the same. We are attaching some pictures. Enjoy! Happy New Year! Ashley and David

Ellie
Ellie

We adopted Baxter (a young Fox Hound/ Beagle mix) from Buster’s Friends November 2010. Baxter had a few health problems, including a broken leg and had lived in a pound for most of his life. Baxter quickly adjusted to his new home. He is very loving, intelligent, loves to go to obedience class and will start level III advanced classes soon. Baxter is young about 1 yr. and 3 months old, he has lots of energy and we thought he needed a companion dog, so we adopted Belle, known as “Ellie” on the BBR site. Belle (a young, female Basset Hound) from Basset Buddies Rescue joined our family in Feb. 2011. Belle was skittish, severely malnourished and suffered from several health conditions, when she was rescued by a kind lady, and was nursed back to health and Basset Buddies was contacted. Belle warmed up to us very quickly and was very clingy at first. She still likes to “show us the love” in the evening. We have had both dogs under the Veterinary care of the wonderful Drs. and staff at Kingsland Vet Clinic. We are happy to say that both dogs have a total clear bill of health and are thriving both physically and emotionally. Belle is thriving a bit too well, as we now have to monitor her “girlish” figure. She also loves to perform the tricks Baxter learns in obedience class and has never met a treat she didn’t like! Belle and Baxter go over to “their” treat cabinet to demand treats. We had to put a child proof lock on the cabinet, as Baxter was opening it and handing treats out to the two of them! Baxter and Belle are true pals, they love their new home and are very well adjusted, happy and healthy. They live a life of leisure, sleeping on sofas, running and playing, taking walks and just being pampered. These two little dogs have become a big part of our family and they enrich our lives daily, as we watch their latest antics!

May & June

I thought I would drop you an update on our favorite little girls. So about a year ago Basset Buddies took custodianship of May and June. Today they are fat (just a little) and sassy couch lumps at the Joneses. But they love their walks and running about 'their' backyard. Both girls are doing really well. June is at 44lbs and May about the same -they gained on their heartworm-vacation but have slimmed down nicely now that we walk frequently - we have to. June takes to sitting under the wall rack that holds their harnesses and whines when she wants to walk. May needs to drop a couple more pounds but she is healthy. I guess spring got into May- she managed to get a hold of a young squirrel and like her toys she loves so much, was trying to find the squeaker. I am afraid I wasn't quick enough. The squirrel didn't make it, but a couple days later I managed to convince her the bird in her mouth wasn't worth it and she dropped it before fatal damage was done. So May is now 'Killer' and June, who took out her zest for a rodent in a down spout by pulling the spout off the wall, is now AKA, 'Destroyer'. I could not figure out how May got a bird. The squirrel was a young, stupid and rather slow. But a bird? In open ground? Well I watched June a couple weeks later stalked a dove on the ground. The bird was intent on the water in the fountain and June was behind it and as still as a rock. She almost got it but I scared the bird off first. Back to walking. We have had some trouble with the girls pulling while on the harnesses. May LOVES kids and other dogs and she goes WILD. But we found cheap no-pull harnesses (SPORN's original label and half the price, at Walmart) that really work. And they are easy to put on. When the girls are not lounging about, they like to run around the house (and 'their' backyard). June thinks it is funny to try to trip me by walking on my heels - I have to correct her on that. May loves to play-with her squeaky toys you left them, or balls, or the flat squirrel Phillip bought her after her 'kill' (it has a squeaker in it). She even loves to play with me while I roll around my desk area on my chair. June just looks at us as if we were crazy. May has to bounce noses with me and Phil each day. Don't know what is all about, but it makes her happy. And June definitely has the 'sorrowful basset look' down. She is a clown. She jumped from the couch to Phil's chair (about 2 feet away) when she wasn't getting his attention. Shocker. They love to eat dried sweet potatoes that I routinely make every other week for them. And they especially love to share the couch with Phillip. May usually goes on top of Phil while June hangs out between his shines and feet. Bathing has been interesting but they are not afraid of it and love to be brushed and rubbed down. They still make us laugh everyday. When I come home and see their happy faces in their kennel I cannot image how someone else didn't adopt them before us. They are so happy and so gentle and loving. You cannot image how many times Phil and I have had this discussion - how did we get so lucky with these two dolls. How did these two stay with Basset Buddies so long when they are so cute, so loving. Why didn't someone else snatched these two up? Well, we got lucky! Thanks again to Basset Buddies, Chris and Phillip Jones and May and June
