• If the basset has an ID tag with an owner's phone number or a rabies tag with vet clinic information, please call any phone numbers listed on the tags to see whether the owner may be located.
  
  

• If you have found a basset in your neighborhood with no tags, we recommend that you take the dog to an area vet to be scanned for a microchip. If present, the microchip could be of great assistance in determining the rightful owner of the dog and how to contact him/her.
  
  

• If the basset has both no tags and no microchip, the next best step is to post "Found Dog" signs, giving the owner an opportunity to locate the dog.

  If no one responds, you have two options:
     

1) Continue to provide a foster home for the dog and adopt him/her out through a rescue group (like Basset Buddies Rescue of Texas :) You may contact us at info@bbrtx.org to pursue this option.

2) Call Animal Control to come and pick up the dog or take the dog to a shelter.
