Helllooo Basset Buddies, I’m Zander! I came into rescue back in May after BBRTX picked me up from the shelter. You see, a few days before they picked me up I was minding my business, chasing the honeys in a field, and I was busted by the doggie police! They put me in lockup, and the vet at the shelter noticed I couldn’t walk on my back leg. They gave me some meds that made me super sleepy and, when I woke up, I had this weird thing on my leg and the cone of shame! Not to mention, I had a bright pink collar on too. Sooo embarrassing. I could hear them saying my leg was broken and I needed surgery because I had a broken tibia. I didn’t know what that meant but they did give me meds so my leg didn’t hurt anymore. Before I knew it, some lady from a rescue came to pick me up. She gave me a treat and we got to ride in the doggie mobile. I really liked that even though she wouldn’t let me drive. I tried my best to be a backseat driver, though, and then decided to give up and take a long basset nap instead. Once we got to my foster mama's house, she gave me my own bed, some yummy food, and said I needed to rest up because I was going to have a long road ahead of me. The next day she took me to a vet who repaired my broken tibia. I spent several weeks on ‘bed rest’ before my foster mama would let me go out and visit the other hounds in the house. I’ve decided I like to play, and I really like to snuggle on the sofa!
